Forgive Me
Overview
Isla and Oro reaffirm their love and test sharing his powers to enable a swift kill of Grim. After sending Oro to oversee Starling defenses, Isla breaks her promise, uses her blood to melt the Wildling seed, and opens the vault with her crown. This choice risks their bond but advances the oracle’s path.
Summary
Haunted by unhelpful, destabilizing memories, Isla meets Oro in the Mainland woods to practice gripping their bond and momentarily holding his powers. Oro insists he can kill Grim in a heartbeat if Isla can hold the link, but Isla’s past screams against the plan, deepening her inner conflict.
Believing she is unworthy, Isla pushes Oro away, yet Oro declares his enduring love and patience. Their honesty draws them closer; Isla reaches into their shared bridge and channels his Sunling fire, blue-tinged like his. The intimacy steadies her, and they promise each other they are not going anywhere.
Isla then asks Oro to oversee the Starling barrier, with Cinder having begun a gleaming wall and the Starlings constructing a second shield. Once Oro leaves and the connection between them fades, Isla confronts the oracle’s directive and her own doubt: remembering has failed to provide answers.
Isla crosses to Wild Isle’s Place of Mirrors, faces the vault, and apologizes to Oro in absentia. She slices her palm, alchemizing pain into strength as her Wildling seed melts through her bones like liquid gold. Using her crown as the key, she turns the lock without resistance and forces the vault door fully open.
