Summary
Isla wakes from intensifying visions that are now memories, realizing a past duel with Grim had been staged—he had let her win to bolster her standing. Determined to overwrite those memories, Isla initiates intimacy with Oro after training, but Oro restrains himself, confessing desire while prioritizing her well-being.
Pressed by Oro’s concern, Isla admits her memories are returning against her will. Oro’s anger focuses on Grim, and he immediately insists Isla move into his chambers for safety and to sever any link Grim might exploit. After relocating, Isla’s intrusive memories cease, her sleep returns, and her training sharpens.
Days later on Wildling newland, Isla and Oro practice by commanding plants, with Lynx observing. Their playful challenge culminates in Oro crafting a tiny golden rose. Moved, Isla tells Oro that everyone she loved betrayed her—except him. She prompts him to ask if she still loves Grim and answers without hesitation: no.
Relief breaks Oro’s reserve. Isla confesses she loves him; Oro reciprocates. They share a first soft kiss that turns passionate, briefly checked by Lynx’s growl, and Oro affirms his love. The chapter closes with their bond solidified and Isla’s focus firmly on a future with Oro.
