Cameron and Xavier land at the council hall after the ambush, trading uneasy jokes that mask their fear of consequences. Both admit to a foreboding sense that something worse is coming.

Roccurem appears without warning, prompting Cameron’s irritation and Xavier’s complaint about the unanticipated vampire coven. Roccurem calls the ordeal necessary and, reflecting on the damage to Dianna and Samkiel’s bond by Kaden’s machinations, says healing such a broken heart is delicate and that he must intervene further. He vanishes without clarifying.

Xavier receives a call and leaves, and Cameron’s jealousy and dread intensify. Unwilling to be alone with his thoughts, Cameron teleports to Elianna’s office, where barbed banter gives way to mutual attraction.

Seeking escape from stress and loneliness, Cameron and Elianna engage in a heated, purely transactional sexual encounter that both use to forget their problems. Their rough tryst wrecks Elianna’s desk, mirroring the characters’ fraying control.

Afterward, Elianna, visibly strained, invites Cameron upstairs for more. Cameron refuses at first, then hesitates; she notices and smiles, leaving their continued liaison implied while the larger threats—and Roccurem’s promised interference—loom.
