Overview
At a masquerade gala, Kaden directs Vincent and Roccurem in a scheme to separate targets after dream eaters seed “freedom” in their minds. Vincent, betraying his own, confirms a growing bond between an unnamed couple, provoking Kaden’s jealousy. Roccurem dismisses the threat and promises The Order will achieve Samkiel’s death.
Summary
Kaden attends a crowded masquerade gala with Roccurem, savoring the orchestra and fixating on a veslir soloist. Vincent arrives late, tense, and Kaden immediately asserts control, reminding him the “final act” is imminent and that everyone must be where Kaden wants them.
Vincent reports the dream eaters have planted “seeds of freedom” in their targets’ minds, enabling Kaden’s plan to separate them. Kaden presses him on the aftermath, warning Vincent—leader of Onuna and the Hand—that he has no choice and works for them. Vincent agrees to ensure the separation despite evident reluctance.
As Vincent leaves, he reveals that “he’s with her” and that the attempt to divide them only strengthened their bond; if they complete a “third act,” the bond will seal. Kaden’s jealousy flares, but he drives Vincent away with a threat. He turns on Roccurem, accusing him of failing to prevent this outcome.
Roccurem coolly counters that the mark isn’t on her finger, their bonding is unlikely among many futures, and assures Kaden that time favors their plan. He declares The Order will have what it wants: Samkiel’s death. The performance crescendos and ends as Kaden restrains his rage, holding to the plan.
