Chapter 79
Overview
After the dinner, Cameron, Xavier, and Vincent debate Dianna’s threat and the Hand’s future. Tension shifts when Xavier reveals his engagement, forcing Cameron to confront long-suppressed feelings. Their argument over secrecy and Cameron’s tryst with Elianna ends with Xavier choosing his new path and flying away.
Summary
Leaving Samkiel’s home, Cameron walks with Xavier and Vincent as Logan, Neverra, and Imogen part ways. Their banter turns tense when Vincent calls Dianna volatile. The trio argue about lingering threats: Vincent distrusts Dianna’s dormant power, while Cameron and Xavier insist Samkiel can stop her. Disgusted, Vincent departs.
Alone with Cameron, Xavier tries to talk. He reveals a ring and admits he accepted a marriage proposal weeks ago, choosing a fresh start with someone kind who openly wants a future. Shocked and hurt, Cameron questions the speed and depth of the relationship.
The discussion erupts when Xavier calls out Cameron’s secrecy about sleeping with Elianna, saying Cameron knew his feelings yet never acted. Cameron challenges whether Xavier truly loves his fiancé or is settling. Xavier refuses to break another’s heart because Cameron waited too long.
Crushed, Cameron concedes, masking his true feelings. Xavier, tearful but resolute, says he is happy and will marry his fiancé. He launches into the night, leaving Cameron devastated by the consequences of silence and missed chances.
