Chapter 22 – Dianna
Overview
Dianna and Liam’s reluctant alliance grows sharper and more hostile as they travel to Omael, but the trip also proves Dianna’s caution about Kaden’s reach is justified. Nym appears to help them with false identities and Sophie’s location, only for Dianna to discover that Nym and Sophie have betrayed her to Kaden.
Sophie’s ambush poisons Dianna and reveals that Kaden’s network is already moving against her. Liam’s suspicion and violent rescue keep Dianna from being captured, forcing their partnership into more immediate danger while confirming that secrecy is fragile.
Summary
Dianna and Liam travel by luxury celestial convoy toward Omael, where Dianna hopes to visit Nym, a designer and Kaden informant who can supply false documents and information. Liam questions why they need mortal precautions, but Dianna insists Kaden can track technology and has already sent assassins after Gabby, so remaining hidden matters more than Liam’s impatience.
During the tense trip, Dianna wakes from a nightmare about Kaden dragging Dianna back. Dianna notices Liam has not slept and can feel his power pacing through walls, which unsettles Liam. Their argument turns personal as Liam calls Dianna Kaden’s consort, dismisses her importance to Kaden, and admits Liam might have executed Dianna if she had told him everything before their pact.
In Omael, Dianna instructs Liam to stay quiet while they meet Nym. Dianna pretends she is still working for Kaden and requests untraceable credit cards, burner phones, passports, clothing, and Sophie’s location. Nym cooperates, reveals the Otherworld is buzzing about the storm in Arariel and something ancient returning, and gives Dianna supplies while openly flirting with Liam.
Hours later, Dianna and Liam drive to Sophie’s secluded cabin in Adonael. Dianna again poses as Kaden’s agent and asks Sophie to help locate the ancient artifact. Sophie appears afraid but agrees to fetch spell supplies, while Liam warns Dianna that Sophie is lying because her behavior and scent changed.
Dianna investigates upstairs and finds Sophie communicating through a dark mirror with one of Kaden’s men. Sophie reveals Nym warned her, that Nym drugged Dianna’s coffee, and that Sophie plans to deliver Dianna to Kaden in exchange for wealth and a place in the coven. Sophie shoots Dianna with poisoned needles, but Liam breaks through the door, kills Sophie, removes the needles, and carries the poisoned Dianna away as Dianna loses consciousness.
