After two weeks without word from Kaden, Dianna enjoys time with Gabby but remains uneasy and repeatedly checks her phone. The sisters spend a sunny day together, visiting a movie theater, getting pedicures, and going to The Modern Grill, where Gabby’s connection to the grateful owner gets them a table overlooking the ocean.

At lunch, Dianna and Gabby talk about their dead parents, their childhood, and the freedom Dianna once gave Gabby. The conversation turns painful when Gabby says she wants Dianna to have happiness and a normal life. Dianna insists Kaden owns her and that the life Gabby now has came at a price neither sister can escape.

Gabby challenges Dianna’s resignation, pointing out the bruises, sleeplessness, constant vigilance, and fear she has noticed since Dianna arrived. Dianna loses control enough to crack the table, then tries to soften the moment by reassuring Gabby that she does not regret sacrificing herself and would do it again.

The reunion is interrupted when Tobias and Alistair appear behind Dianna. Dianna reacts instinctively by grabbing Tobias by the throat, but releases him because hurting Kaden’s closest men would endanger both sisters. Alistair taunts Gabby, implying he could control her mind, and Dianna warns him not to threaten her sister.

Tobias announces that Kaden is busy and that Dianna’s visit is over. Dianna says goodbye to Gabby and promises to return as soon as possible. Alistair then reveals that Peter has finally provided useful information and that they are going to Ophanium in El Donuma, Camilla’s territory, a place where Dianna is unwelcome.

As the group prepares to leave, Tobias suddenly focuses on something inside the restaurant. Tobias and Alistair exchange alarmed looks, but they refuse to explain what they noticed. Dianna sees no Otherworldly threat and leaves with them, unsettled that something could disturb two creatures as dangerous as Tobias and Alistair.
