Chapter 40 – Liam

Overview

Liam gets Dianna to safety in Chasin and heals her catastrophic wounds with the help of a hidden celestial couple, revealing how deeply afraid he is of losing her. Afterward, Liam contacts Logan and learns the effects of summoning the Oblivian blade reached far beyond the battlefield.

The chapter shifts the larger quest when Liam confirms that Azrael’s daughter, Victoria, lives, making her a crucial lead connected to the Book. Liam’s fear also intensifies because Dianna’s injury matched his vision, making the prophesied end of the world feel more likely.

Summary

Liam lands with the gravely wounded Dianna in the snowy town of Chasin after the altitude and weather slow his escape. Sensing celestial power nearby, Liam finds an elderly-looking celestial couple and asks to use their home because Dianna is badly injured. The couple lets them in, and Liam lays Dianna on the kitchen table.

The woman, Coretta, retrieves Secctree leaves from a hidden alcove of Rashearim supplies. Liam feeds one to Dianna to ease the pain, warning that healing wounds this severe will feel like being torn open again. Dianna accepts the pain, and Liam begins using silver energy to repair her body.

As Liam heals Dianna from her feet upward, the house lights flicker, electronics malfunction, and then the entire street loses power because Liam draws energy from nearby sources. Dianna endures broken bones snapping back into place and deep wounds closing until she is whole again. When Dianna sits up, she tells Liam she feels cold but whole, and Coretta offers guest rooms and clothing.

After showering, Liam uses a mirror spell to contact Logan. Logan reports that part of El Donuma is burning, a freak storm appeared, and a quake reached Valoel, which Liam realizes was likely caused by briefly summoning the Oblivian blade. Liam explains that Kaden attacked with smaller versions of legendary beasts and confirms that Dianna is safe.

Logan notices that Liam is smiling again, eating, and seeming more alive, but the conversation turns serious when Liam asks Logan to investigate Santiago and Camilla. Liam then shares the major lead about the Book: Azrael’s daughter, Victoria, is alive. Logan recognizes that this changes everything, while Liam admits he fears his repeated visions of the world ending may come true because his vision of Dianna’s death-like injury already happened.
