Dianna wakes near the wrecked convoy as Tobias forces celestial blood into her mouth to revive her. She is badly injured, weakened by enchanted cuffs, and surrounded by burning trees and destroyed vehicles. Tobias makes clear he has rescued Dianna only because Kaden wants her back.

Tobias drags Dianna through the wreckage to Alistair, who has brutally wounded Logan but kept him alive. Alistair explains that he manipulated information inside Liam’s ranks so Dianna would be transported with only one member of The Hand. Tobias says Logan must stay alive because Logan may know where the book is.

Alistair finds the keys on Logan and removes Dianna’s restraints. Dianna’s power returns immediately, healing her wounds and restoring her strength. Alistair taunts Logan about the Dhihsin mark linking Logan to his wife, Neverra, and hints that Kaden has plans that will shake the realm, which makes Dianna realize Kaden may still be hiding important secrets.

Alistair makes Dianna taste Logan’s blood to search his memories. Dianna sees Logan with Liam and other members of The Hand in a beautiful realm, flashes of battle, domestic moments with Neverra, and their bonding celebration. Dianna finds no mention of the book, only Logan’s love for Neverra and his loyalty to his family.

When Logan tries to kill himself with a silver dagger to avoid becoming Alistair’s puppet, Dianna stops him. Moved by Logan’s devotion and reminded of her own terror of losing Gabby, Dianna turns the dagger on Alistair instead, killing him instantly. Tobias attacks verbally and advances, but Logan uses a blue beam to knock Tobias away; Tobias escapes into the sky.

Dianna realizes Tobias will tell Kaden, putting both Dianna and Gabby in danger. Instead of fleeing alone, Dianna cauterizes Logan’s worst wound and helps him stand. With uneasy cooperation between them, Logan directs Dianna to the Grand Estate in Boel, and Dianna uses her restored power to leave the ambush site with him.
