CHAPTER 75: LYRA

Overview

Odette forces Lyra and Grayson into a challenge that makes Lyra confront the symbols tied to her father’s death and Odette’s hidden connection to a Hawthorne. The group solves the “Shatter” clue by breaking the lollipop, revealing a hidden spiral and, ultimately, a concealed exit. Lyra’s emotional crisis deepens the mystery around her past while the team advances in the game.

Summary

Lyra struggles to process Odette’s calla lily drawing because it matches the beginning of Lyra’s recurring dream about the day her father died. Odette insists that Lyra draw Grayson, saying it is time for the three of them to put the game to rest, and describes Lyra’s drawing as parallel to the way Odette once drew her own Hawthorne.

Lyra obeys despite feeling overwhelmed by memories of being four years old, holding a calla lily and candy necklace, and hearing “A Hawthorne did this” and “Omega.” Once Lyra finishes and scans the drawing, the challenge accepts it and gives the hint: “Shatter.” Lyra barely registers the hint until Grayson steadies her and repeats it.

Lyra realizes the lollipop is the object most likely to shatter. Angry and desperate, Lyra smashes it on the ground, and the candy breaks apart. Grayson finds that the stick has a corked, hollow end containing liquid, and Odette gives Lyra the paintbrush so Lyra can use the liquid on the sticky notes.

As Lyra paints each sticky note, partial images appear. Grayson and Odette assemble the revealed images into a spiral, which Lyra connects to the unique spiral patterns in the ballroom mosaic. After searching the room, the three find the matching spiral on the wall.

Grayson presses the spiral, causing its tiles to fall away and reveal electrical wires. Grayson quickly connects the wires and installs the light switch by hand. When Lyra flips the switch, a section of wall turns into a door, allowing the group to escape the room.
