CHAPTER 57: ROHAN
Overview
Rohan and Savannah’s search stalls completely, forcing Rohan to argue that strategy requires taking a hint rather than wasting the remaining hours before dawn. Their exchange exposes Savannah’s deep anger, her distrust of reliance on others, and the possibility that Sheffield Grayson or past mistakes are driving her actions.
Savannah ultimately agrees to press the hint button, but her threat to destroy Rohan later turns their alliance into a temporary and volatile necessity rather than a true partnership.
Summary
With a little over four hours left until dawn, Rohan and Savannah remain trapped on their current puzzle. Their clue, A Needle In A Haystack, appears less like a clue than an accurate description of their stalled search, and hours of examining boxes, shelves, crowns, scepters, thrones, buttons, and triggers have yielded nothing.
Rohan concludes that the room cannot be their final puzzle and argues that taking a hint is the strategically sound choice. Savannah blocks the hint button and challenges his willingness to give up, revealing her refusal to accept loss or rely on other people because their mistakes can become hers.
Rohan studies Savannah’s anger and connects it to her father, Sheffield Grayson, though he cannot tell whether Sheffield has returned, is controlling Savannah, or is only part of what fuels her fury. Instead of pressing for facts, Rohan pushes on Savannah’s emotions, naming her anger and using it to steer her toward the practical decision.
Savannah keeps her composure but threatens that once their temporary partnership ends, she will destroy Rohan and enjoy doing it. She then agrees to take the hint, framing the choice as something she should do while bitterly echoing Rohan’s comment that society rewards women who behave as expected.
