CHAPTER 53: ROHAN
Overview
Rohan and Savannah decode the game-filled library by connecting their team’s royal imagery to a custom board game marked with the Diamonds symbol. The discovery confirms that the organizers embedded personalized challenges in the room and that items found earlier, like the dice, have continuing significance.
The pair’s methodical cooperation leads them through a false trail: the weighted dice and haystack cards seem meaningful, but the only written message tells them the apparent clue is not theirs. This shifts the puzzle from simple discovery to interpretation, forcing them to question which clues belong to which players or teams.
Summary
Rohan and Savannah search the final shelves of games in the sealed library, realizing that the room may not need separate instructions because their team has already received a clue: each team’s challenge is its own. Their earlier imagery of crowns, a scepter, and an empty throne leads them to pull games associated with kings, kingdoms, dynasties, and power.
As they work in parallel, Savannah finds a black-and-gold box titled A Needle in a Haystack, marked with a diamond symbol. Rohan connects the diamond to their team identity, and Savannah notes that the font matches the golden tickets, proving the game was custom-made by the organizers rather than part of the library’s normal collection.
They open the box and set up the game on the recessed table. Inside are two stacks of white cards, a simple board, and eight metal pieces: five crowns, a spinning wheel, a bow and arrow, and a heart. Savannah chooses a pearled crown, while Rohan chooses the largest, darker crown, and they notice the only written rule inside the empty box: “ROLL THE DICE.”
Although the box contains no dice, Rohan produces the red glass dice he found earlier in his room, and Savannah reveals she also has white glass dice hidden in her braid. Savannah rolls first, getting five and three; Rohan rolls six and two. When both roll again and receive the exact same numbers, Rohan realizes the dice are weighted and their fixed results must be clues.
Savannah advances to a square marked HAYSTACK and draws from the matching card stack, but the first cards are blank. Rohan spreads both stacks across the board and finds only one nonblank card. Its message reads: THIS IS NOT YOUR CLUE.
