Six weeks after Ryle leaves for England, Lily spends time with Allysa, Marshall, and their baby, Rylee. Lily is eighteen weeks pregnant but has told no one, because everyone believes Ryle is only away studying in Cambridge and that the marriage is unchanged. Lily wants Ryle to be the first to know about the pregnancy, so she keeps hiding it under winter clothes.

During a casual conversation, Allysa asks Lily about Ryle and mentions a supposed subway system in Cambridge. Lily agrees too quickly, and Allysa abruptly sends Marshall away with Rylee, pulls Lily into the bedroom, and confronts her. Allysa reveals she invented the subway question because she has sensed for weeks that something is wrong with both Lily and Ryle.

Lily finally tells Allysa everything: Ryle's violent attack, Atlas taking Lily in, the hospital visit, the pregnancy, and the loneliness and fear Lily has endured since. Allysa is devastated and torn because Ryle is her brother, but she tells Lily that while she wishes Lily could forgive him as a sister, as Lily's best friend she will cut Lily off if Lily takes Ryle back.

After crying together, Allysa shifts into support mode and celebrates Lily's pregnancy, giving Lily maternity clothes and helping Lily see her pregnant body openly for the first time. Marshall accidentally sees Lily's stomach, and Allysa warns him not to repeat anything. Allysa wants to plan a baby shower, but Lily insists Ryle must be told first; even so, Lily feels real happiness about the pregnancy for the first time.
