Summary
Six weeks after Lily and Ryle’s impulsive Las Vegas wedding, Lily’s mother is still disappointed that Lily skipped the traditional ceremony she had imagined for her only daughter. Lily tries to lighten the mood by joking about future grandchildren, then reflects that she and Ryle discussed important expectations before marrying, including children, finances, charity, voting, and lifestyle choices.
Ryle comes home, and Lily happily emphasizes to her mother that her husband has arrived. Lily and Ryle share an affectionate, sexual reunion on the couch, reinforcing Lily’s sense that their marriage feels joyful despite their busy work schedules. Afterward, they shower and prepare for dinner with Allysa and Marshall before Allysa’s baby arrives.
While Lily is in the shower, she hears loud noises. When Lily comes out, Lily finds a nightstand overturned and Ryle sitting with Lily’s phone and a hidden slip of paper: Atlas’s phone number. Ryle says he found the number when Lily’s phone case came off, called it, and reached voicemail; furious, Ryle throws Lily’s phone against the wall and leaves.
Lily chases Ryle into the stairwell to explain, but when Lily grabs Ryle’s shirt, Ryle pushes Lily away. The scene shifts to Lily waking in their bedroom with injuries near her eye and lip while Ryle tends to her like a doctor. Ryle says Lily fell down the stairs, but Lily remembers clearly that Ryle pushed her, making this the second time Ryle has hurt her.
Ryle coldly accuses Lily of lying and leaves Atlas’s number beside Lily before slamming out. When Ryle returns, Ryle breaks down, begs Lily to say she is not seeing Atlas, and claims his love for Lily hurts too much. Lily explains that Atlas put the number in Lily’s phone after the restaurant incident because Atlas was worried about Lily’s safety, and Lily swears she has not contacted Atlas since.
After giving Ryle the explanation Ryle demanded, Lily tells Ryle to get out of her apartment. Ryle tries to insist Lily fell and should not be left alone, but Lily screams at Ryle to leave and throws pillows until Ryle exits. Lily locks the door, returns to the bed she shares with Ryle, and recognizes it as the place where Ryle brings Lily after cleaning up the harm Ryle caused.
