Overview
Summer narrates the school’s Egyptian Museum night, where she and August showcase standout projects and lead their moms on a flashlight tour. Jack privately asks why August is angry with him; Summer honors her promise to August but hints the clue “Bleeding Scream,” nudging Jack toward the Halloween incident and a possible reconciliation.
Summary
Summer describes spending the next month frequently hanging out with August after school, alternating between homes, and notes their families growing friendlier, even joking about a blind date for her mom. The school prepares for the Egyptian Museum exhibit, heightening everyone’s excitement.
In the gym-turned-museum, students display projects with caption cards. Summer’s Anubis statue and August’s large sugar-cube step pyramid stand out. Students arrive in costumes; Summer and August dress as mummies with faces mostly covered.
When parents arrive, students guide them by flashlight through the darkened gym. Summer and August give a joint tour to their moms, whispering explanations and dramatizing the displays with light.
Stepping away to drink water and unwrapping her face, Summer is approached by Jack, who is dressed as the man from The Mummy. Jack asks why August is suddenly mad at him, insisting he has no idea. Summer refuses to reveal the reason, honoring the promise she made to August.
Wanting to help without betraying confidence, Summer gives Jack a single hint—“Bleeding Scream”—then walks away. The hint points him toward the Halloween incident, setting the stage for Jack to realize what happened and potentially make amends.
