While working at the diner, Hannah is visited by Allie and Sean, who are clearly back together and affectionate again. Allie invites Hannah to a Ryan Gosling movie marathon the next night, but Hannah is supposed to tutor Garrett at nine. Wanting to go, Hannah calls Garrett during her break and, despite the noise of a gathering at his house, believes she successfully changes their session to seven.

The following evening, Hannah arrives at Garrett’s house at seven and is confused when Tucker and Dean seem surprised to see her. Ignoring their warning, Hannah goes upstairs and walks into Garrett’s room, where he is in bed with a naked girl. Mortified and furious, Hannah slams the door, races downstairs, and announces that she is done tutoring him because he does not respect her time or seem serious about passing Ethics.

Garrett runs outside after her and argues that he thought she said nine, while Hannah insists she clearly changed the time. Their fight quickly becomes personal. Hannah accuses Garrett of caring more about sex than his grade, and Garrett pushes back by asking if Hannah ever hooks up with anyone.

When Hannah admits she has not been with anyone in a year, Garrett reacts with surprise. Hannah dismisses the girl upstairs as a floozy, and Garrett defensively insists that Tiffany is smart, though he cannot really support the claim. The exchange sharpens the awkwardness between them, especially because Hannah is also unsettled by her own physical reaction to seeing Garrett half-dressed.

As Hannah tries to leave, Garrett asks to reschedule, but Hannah refuses. He then reminds her that if she stops tutoring him, their planned Saturday date is off as well. Because Hannah still wants the chance to see Justin outside class, she relents and agrees to come back the next day at seven, while Garrett ends the confrontation with obvious satisfaction.
