Chapter 13: Joyce
Overview
Joyce processes the news of Tony Curran’s murder through a diary entry, confirming that Elizabeth is already coordinating information and planning the club’s response. Joyce’s account reinforces the importance of Tony’s public argument with Ian Ventham and shows Joyce becoming an active participant in the investigation.
Summary
In a morning diary entry, Joyce records that Tony Curran, the builder associated with Coopers Chase, has been killed. Joyce reflects on Tony’s connection to the retirement village and finds a strange thrill in the idea that his traces may still be present in her home.
Joyce explains that Elizabeth phoned the previous night with the news that Tony was bludgeoned by an unknown attacker. Joyce told Elizabeth about the argument Joyce had witnessed between Tony Curran and Ian Ventham, with Ron and Jason also present, but Elizabeth already knew the information, apparently from Ron.
Elizabeth indicates that Elizabeth has a plan and says she is seeing Ibrahim in the morning. When Joyce asks how Joyce can help, Elizabeth tells Joyce to wait for instructions, leaving Joyce ready to keep her mobile on while she goes about her day.
