Finn — Seven

Finn picks up Autumn for a celebratory drive after she finishes her novel. She is subdued and doubtful about publication, so Finn reassures her and coaxes out laughter with teasing and music chosen because it reminds him of her. He deliberately misses an exit to prolong their time together and opens the windows the way she likes.

At the taco drive-through, they banter about food, exercise, and laziness, and Autumn casually mentions future pregnancy, which startles Finn and underscores his possessive, protective feelings. He promises candy next, planning the night so she’ll let him read her manuscript afterward.

At a gas station, Finn sends Autumn to rest while he buys her favorite candies and sodas. He notices the older clerk looking for Autumn and pointedly says she is with him, then rushes out, determined not to return. Back in the car, they ride quietly as Finn loops the long way home, savoring the moment and imagining staying near to protect her in college.

Finn asks if Autumn wants to practice driving; she declines, exhausted and focused on eating. They talk about his med-school path, which leads to his reflection on the brain managing automatic and conscious tasks, and his awe at Autumn’s mind creating her novel. Autumn notes how the brain can still send illogical signals, and Finn agrees. He restarts the album, hoping she intuits his feelings, and heads home so he can read her book.
