Aoife — Chapter 38
Overview
Shaken by Olivia’s near-drowning, Aoife spirals into guilt and memories of a past tragedy she failed to prevent. Freddy calms her, reframing it as a minor blip and urging professionalism. Aoife regains composure, ushers guests to the marquee, and recommits to steering the wedding to its end despite rising tensions.
Summary
Aoife, the wedding planner, reels after the bridesmaid, Olivia, is pulled from the water. She recognizes she had seen warning signs yet was too stretched to intervene, and the incident triggers memories of an earlier day when she could not prevent disaster. Maintaining a professional facade, she corrals guests into the marquee.
Overwhelmed by guilt, Aoife seeks out Freddy behind the marquee. She confesses her fear that Olivia could have drowned and that her own inattention is to blame. Freddy grounds her: Olivia was saved, the guests are settled, and the event can still proceed smoothly.
Aoife voices how the unruly ushers’ games and the day’s chaos have made everything harder, stirring her old fears. Freddy insists it’s nearly over and urges her to focus on the remaining hours. Reassured, Aoife resolves to hold herself together and carry the wedding forward.
