Overview
Olivia drinks heavily to numb herself after Will’s threatening whisper about her earlier “stunt.” Groped by guests and spiraling, she falls on the dance floor. When onlookers call for help, Will arrives and insists on taking her outside. He isolates Olivia by the sea, sharpening the danger of their secret.
Summary
Earlier that day, Olivia prowls the marquee, downing abandoned drinks to get as drunk as possible. She replays how Will grabbed her for a dance and, at the end, warned her to stop whatever “stunt” she pulled, a threat that underscores the dark secret between them.
As the party grows wilder, Olivia notices younger staff watching and feels hostility from all sides. Several male guests grope her, deepening her anger and self-disgust. She drinks more, aiming to blot out sensation and thought.
Her cousin Beth pulls her onto the packed dance floor. Dizzy and unsteady in high heels, Olivia trips and crashes down, likely hitting her head. People around her panic, calling for Jules or Olivia’s mother.
Will appears and offers help. Olivia swears at him and resists, but Will stays gentle and insistent, lifting her and suggesting air. Concerned onlookers defer to him, and Olivia, dazed and exhausted, stops fighting.
Outside, the wind batters them as Will guides Olivia to a more sheltered spot near the sea. With the marquee noise behind them, they are finally alone, his earlier threat and her vulnerability hanging between them as the storm and surf close in.
