The Wedding Night — Chapter 26
Overview
In a violent night search for a rumored body, the ushers trudge across the island, rattled by the waitress’s scream and the storm. Their bickering exposes the brutal school hazing “Survival,” a past student death, and harm done to Charlie on the stag. The scene ends as Freddy approaches, carrying something unknown.
Summary
In the black gale, Duncan, Femi, Angus, and Pete sweep the island with torches, spurred by the waitress’s claim of a body. Every rise in the ground becomes a threat as the wind howls like a scream, mirroring the panic they’re trying to suppress.
Banter turns sour when Duncan jokes about their school days. Angus rejects the nostalgia, calling their hazing game “Survival” sadistic and citing a student death. Duncan insists the death was accidental, but the argument exposes fault lines and regret. Femi tries to defuse the tension, reminding them of their grim task.
They speculate about what happened: a drunk guest wandering off, Charlie’s unsteady state worsened by what they did to him on the stag, and the bridesmaid’s apparent suicidality. Pete grows jumpy, convinced someone is following. The group turns, bracing for danger.
A bobbing light resolves into Freddy, the wedding planner’s husband, approaching through the dark. As he nears, Angus notices something in Freddy’s hand, leaving the group—and the search—poised on a new, ominous reveal.
