Jules — Chapter 30
Overview
Moments before the ceremony, Jules seeks her father’s approval of Will and receives none, intensifying her doubts. She vents her fury by smashing a vase, then composes herself. Walking the aisle, Jules is briefly overwhelmed but steadies when she sees Will radiant at the altar, recommitting to the moment.
Summary
Jules readies for her wedding, placing a gold crown and taking her bouquet. Her father arrives to escort her, and Jules presses him for an opinion of Will. He offers only guarded compliments, which Jules interprets as disapproval, stirring fears already seeded by the anonymous note.
The conversation escalates as Jules demands reassurance. Her father refuses to lie and even offers to step aside from walking her down the aisle. Hurt but resolute, Jules insists he fulfill the role. After Aoife checks on timing, Jules retreats upstairs, channels her rage by smashing a vase, and regains calm, determined to proceed.
Jules composes her appearance and expression, then rejoins her father and Olivia. As they process, a wave of dread and estrangement grips Jules while wind and mournful music heighten the unease. She briefly sees the guests as strangers and loosens her grip on her father’s arm.
When the clouds part and she recognizes smiling friends and family, Jules’s fear lifts. Seeing Will radiant at the altar, she feels reassured and recommits to the ceremony, smiling as she reaches him.
