Will — Chapter 65
Overview
During a power cut, Aoife confronts Will outside and reveals she is Darcey “Loner” Malone’s sister. She explains she engineered the wedding deal to bring Will to the island, lays out Freddy’s eyewitness account and her brother’s letters, and accuses Will of orchestrating the fatal hazing. Will denies everything as Aoife reveals a weapon, escalating the threat.
Summary
In a gale during another power cut, Will heads outside with his phone torch and encounters Aoife. She asks for help with the generator and steers him behind the Folly, keeping her light in his eyes. Will, eager to return to manage brewing scandals, reluctantly follows.
Aoife halts near the bog and admits to planting the seaweed in Will and Jules’s bed, signaling she knows his school “pranks.” She reveals she tracked Will after recognizing him on Survive the Night and deliberately secured the wedding by offering Jules a steep discount.
Aoife identifies herself as the sister of Darcey Malone—the boy Will and Johnno called “Loner.” She cites her brother’s letters and says his empty grave is on the island. Aoife recounts Freddy’s memory of that night at Trevellyan’s: hiding in fear while Will and Johnno took Darcey for a “Survival.”
Aoife says she overheard Will in the cave earlier, confirming her belief that Will led the hazing that killed her brother, possibly to cover stolen exam papers. She blames Will for destroying her family. Will tries charm and denial, insisting there’s no proof and that it was a tragic accident.
As Will attempts to disengage, Aoife refuses and raises the stakes. With Will’s footing precarious near the bog, he notices a gleam of metal in Aoife’s other hand, signaling imminent danger.
