Jules — Chapter 51
Overview
During the reception, Jules realizes Will is missing and learns he has taken a drunk Olivia outside. Fearing another accident, Jules searches the stormy grounds. She spots Will and Olivia together by the sea, unusually close and talking privately, heightening Jules’s suspicions and propelling her to approach unseen.
Summary
Jules, newly married, notices Will has disappeared and feels control over the party slipping as guests focus on their own revelry. Uneasy, she begins to search, prioritizing finding Will over managing the celebration.
Two cousins report that Will was last seen with a drunk Olivia, heading toward the entrance for air. Alarmed by Olivia’s instability and the worsening weather, Jules pushes past well-meaning guests and steps into the wind and darkness.
Remembering Olivia’s earlier near-drowning, Jules fears another crisis and heads toward the shore. In the dim light she finally spots two figures—Will and Olivia—standing very close, speaking privately, out of sight of others.
Though stunned that they seem so familiar, Jules suppresses the urge to call out. Instead, driven by suspicion and a need to know, she advances silently toward them through the dark to see and hear more.
