Summary
Hannah, wary since being pennied, senses the ushers’ cruelty rising with their drinking and notices Johnno’s manic edge. Despite Hannah’s silent warning, Charlie gives in to peer pressure and joins Johnno’s drinking game as the old school friends drum and chant their motto, ending with a menacing “raise hell.”
The ritual electrifies the group; Angus explains the Latin, and Johnno orders more drinking. They concoct a foul mix, and Angus loses first, then Will downs his with ease. Charlie is next as Duncan goads him, confirming to Hannah that Charlie has crossed into the reckless mode she dreads.
