Chapter 2

Overview

During the floor-nine ceasefire, Carl, Donut, Mordecai, and Mongo regroup in the saferoom to sort gear, potions, achievements, and strategy. Donut gains access to powerful sniper-style equipment and Quan’s cloak, while Mordecai’s upgraded alchemy table offers a way to restore Mongo’s wing. Carl’s backlog of achievements yields valuable rewards but also highlights the AI’s growing instability, and an Emberus quest update points Carl toward a dangerous divine-demonic political mission.

Summary

In the saferoom, Princess Donut rejects a cat-sized ghillie suit despite Carl explaining that it is camouflage. Carl notes that the suit grants stealth-related benefits and, when paired with a floppy sniper-style hat, would greatly increase Donut’s range and targeting ability, making her a dangerous long-distance caster. Mongo circles the gear while Carl feels guilty over Mongo’s missing wing, which Carl caused while controlled by Shi Maria.

Mordecai remains absorbed in the upgraded alchemy table, which now lets him examine potions and learn recipes. When Mordecai enters in a stereotypically Canadian human form, Carl and Donut laugh at his outfit. Mordecai identifies Donut’s new spellbook, Flak, as a useful anti-air spell but tells Donut not to read any spellbooks until they plan properly.

Mordecai pushes Carl and Donut to prepare during the roughly sixty-hour ceasefire and explains that the ceasefire could end early only through a unanimous vote, a warlord withdrawal, or every team declaring defenses complete. Carl gives Quan’s cloak to Donut because it benefits her more, though Mordecai warns they must decide carefully when she should wear it. Mordecai also hints that Carl’s items from Tserendolgor require discussion.

Donut prioritizes healing Mongo and presents an upgraded Heal Pet potion now called Revitalize Pet. Mordecai says the potion should regrow Mongo’s wing in about an hour after he examines it with the upgraded table, and he becomes even more excited when he inspects other transformed potions. Donut worries over Carl’s burned-off hair, but Mordecai says Carl already has a hair tonic and retreats to the crafting room.

Carl then reviews more than fifty achievements and reward boxes accumulated since the previous floor. The achievements include rewards for setting traps that Ren’s team triggered, exploiting the system during the Quan and Ren battle, picking up Quan’s celestial cloak, acquiring a previously bonded pet, finding the sapient weapon Jefferson, surviving contact with a demon lord, and several vulgar or unsettling food-related joke rewards. Carl notices the AI’s commentary is increasingly erratic and disturbing, especially during an achievement tied to Carl teleporting into Samantha’s neck hole.

After the achievement review, Carl checks his Emberus menu and receives a quest update. Amayon, Prince of Sheol, claims to know who killed Emberus’s son and will reveal it if Emberus can kill Amayon’s three brothers; Emberus directs Carl to go to the Temple of Issitoq in a Club Vanquisher and seek permission from the High Cleric of the Watch to break the truce without causing a catastrophic war. Carl sets the problem aside for later as Donut excitedly prepares to open her Celestial box.
