Chapter 9

Overview

Juice Box reveals that Shanty Town’s sudden growth, refreshed food markets, and new leadership have altered the strategic landscape outside Larracos. Ferdinand now controls Team Retribution’s city defense system under Drick’s protection, making an unreliable ally central to the NPC faction’s survival.

Louis agrees to marry Juice Box to strengthen the alliance, despite his fear and uncertainty. The chapter shifts Team Retribution from a mysterious ally into a vulnerable faction constrained by system rules, political workarounds, and dependence on Carl’s crawlers.

Summary

Juice Box greets Louis in human form, visibly exhausted and newly scarred, then shifts the meeting toward strategy. Carl notices that Juice Box withholds some papers while sharing others, signaling that Team Retribution remains allied with Carl’s group but still independent.

Juice Box tells Carl that Carl did not secure the universal regeneration Team Retribution wanted, and Carl answers that the dungeon would never have allowed total safety, so Carl chose a way to kill their enemies instead. Juice Box accepts this and shares documents showing maps, castle locations, troop strengths, resupply schedules, and intelligence about the sudden expansion of Shanty Town outside Larracos.

The documents reveal that Shanty Town appeared after the flooding and now contains new food markets and temples, possibly through an emergency action or loophole. Juice Box’s earlier plan to sabotage the food markets has become useless because the ceasefire refreshed their supplies and other teams bought food during the reprieve.

Carl asks about Shanty Town’s mayor, and Juice Box explains that several mayors have been killed. The latest mayor is Ferdinand, now calling himself Warlord on High, Sir Ferdinand. Juice Box cannot kill Ferdinand because he controls Team Retribution’s access to the city defense system, and if Ferdinand dies, the NPC team loses control.

Juice Box also explains that Drick, the infected elf outworlder assigned as Team Retribution’s adjutant, cannot be harmed and carries a Valtay worm. She confirms she lacks full warlord menus but can use mental messaging and system notifications. Juice Box asks about Ruby and is relieved to learn Mordecai is protecting Ruby and the other changeling children.

Through private chat, Louis admits Juice Box is urging marriage to bind their factions and that she seems frightened beneath her confident act. Though Carl says Louis does not have to go through with it, Louis decides the alliance is too important and publicly proposes immediate marriage. Juice Box joyfully accepts, kisses Louis in a new human form, and the meeting returns to strategy when Britney asks about the size of the diggers, prompting Juice Box to identify them as dwarven automatons.
