Chapter 66
Overview
Eris’s Ceremony of Chaos leaves tens of thousands of allies and enemies frozen in an invulnerable witness pile near the Dream castle, creating a mass-casualty threat if the protection ends. Carl chooses to continue the attack on the Madness castle while trusting Donut and the others to solve the pile crisis.
Meanwhile, Louis’s bombing run fails, Party Planner is killed, and Louis falls into Reaver territory. Donut answers the larger emergency with Rolling Battle Formation, accidentally trapping Meatus and unconscious Eris inside a colossal controllable ball and dramatically changing the battlefield.
Summary
Mordecai explains that Eris has cast the Ceremony of Chaos, a once-ever ritual normally used on the twelfth floor to summon mortal witnesses to divine ceremonies. The witnesses are invulnerable but frozen, unable to move or use chat, and Eris can keep them that way or remove the invulnerability early. Donut reports that thousands upon thousands of allies and enemies, including Katia, Elle, Imani, Bautista, Chris, Sledgie, Florin, Zhang, the Rainbow, and the Reaver army, are piled beside the Dream castle.
Rosetta clarifies that the summoned people are conscious witnesses, which makes the situation urgent: if Eris turns off their protection while they remain immobilized, many could be crushed or suffocate. Carl realizes the scale may be around eighty thousand people and briefly considers destructive solutions, but teleportation is blocked and he cannot reach the pile quickly.
The crisis worsens when Donut sees that Meatus has also gained invulnerability, apparently because Eris mishandled the spell. Carl learns that only some people who were outside, including Carl and Dong, received the invulnerability buff. Donut tells Carl to finish the mission and says Donut has a plan to move the pile away from the god fight.
Before Donut explains, Louis reports that Party Planner has been killed by the dragon after their missile strike failed. The bombs were dropped before being armed, Louis is falling toward the Reaver castle, and Reaver security is tracking him. Carl tells Louis to hide after landing and sends Samantha to rescue him, while Samantha says Yarilo has stopped pursuing her.
Dong urges Carl to use the enemy army’s absence to attack the Madness castle, and Bigs and Jamal support continuing the plan. Carl, torn between the trapped allies, Louis, and the objective before him, decides to trust Donut, Rosetta, and Mordecai to handle the pile while Carl proceeds toward the castle.
A system message announces that Warlord Princess Donut has committed an atrocity. Donut reveals she used Rolling Battle Formation, an atrocity spell from the skunk wizard hat amplified by the tower, to turn the witness pile into an enormous controllable ball. The spell also pulls in invulnerable Meatus and the unconscious Eris still wrapped with Meatus, leaving Harpocrates nearby and afraid of the Rainbow’s light.
