Chapter 60
Overview
Carl’s team carries out the King’s Point bomb run, cracking the orc stronghold’s shields and enabling the dwarves to trigger a volcanic eruption beneath the castle. At the same time, Meatus successfully draws Harpocrates into conflict and batters the god into the Dream castle, breaking Dream’s defenses and opening the southern campaign for Donut. The plan works on multiple fronts, but an unexpected orc backup shield makes the eruption far more violent and catches Party Planner dangerously close.
Summary
Mordecai warns Donut not to use her public-address system while Harpocrates is present because the god of silence attacks excessive noise. Donut wants to play music, but Carl orders her to stick to the plan. Mordecai explains that Harpocrates is expected to fight Meatus, whose stolen divine appendage is sapient, loud, and fond of music, then rage across the battlefield when the old story fails to resolve cleanly.
As Meatus makes a disgusting, thunderous noise that shakes Party Planner, Carl tracks the wider battle. Florin is engaged against the orc forces, Tipid is defending against Dream’s assault on the FUPA, and the Reavers and Viceroys have not yet committed their main forces. Florin reports that a huge shielded scorpion-like mechanized tank, likely piloted by Warlord Stalwart and carrying mages, has erupted from the riverbank and is hitting his south flank.
Carl monitors missile support instead of intervening directly. Bomo and Sledge are operating modified troll control-room devices from Shanty Town to fire missile batteries located mostly in Area 52. Florin paints the tank as a target, and Sledge prepares chaff and Mute missiles while Louis brings Party Planner over the orc stronghold, King’s Point, for the planned bomb run.
Louis drops the full load of Overclocked No Disassemble shield-busters and Waffle Maker high-yield bombs. The bombs crash through the orcs’ defenses, cracking shields and exposing the mountain castle more effectively than expected because the orcs have already taxed their anti-air defenses against Reaver missiles. A green death-ray-like beam narrowly misses Party Planner and splashes against the level ceiling as Louis flies the ship back into smoke.
With Party Planner clear, Britney reports that the dwarves are moving in and dropping agitators into the lava tubes beneath King’s Point. The plan is to force a rapid, controlled eruption that will destroy the castle while the dwarves contain the lava before it reaches Larracos, though Florin and the 101st remain dangerously near the base. Across the map, Meatus announces freedom and smashes Harpocrates into the Dream castle, disabling its shields and causing remaining elves to flee; Rosetta hands the southern campaign to Donut.
As Carl and the others wait for the mountain to erupt, Britney warns that the orcs have added an emergency backup shield around the whole mountain. The shield causes too much pressure to build, and the mountain explodes while Party Planner is still much too close, turning the successful operation into an immediate crisis.
