Overview

Summary
At dawn, Minho leads Thomas through the West Door into Section Eight, demonstrating Runner methods. They move quickly, Minho relying on memory and occasional notes to capture differences from the previous day. Thomas learns to drop cut ivy as “bread crumbs” at turns, gradually matching Minho’s pace and technique.
During a break, Minho recounts how the supposedly dead Griever reanimated and injured Alby, acting oddly as if trying to flee. Thomas wonders where Grievers go and floats the idea of following one, which Minho dismisses as suicidal. They continue, with fatigue mounting.
At lunch, Thomas spots beetle blades marked WICKED. Investigating the wall, he uncovers a metal plate stamped WORLD IN CATASTROPHE: KILLZONE EXPERIMENT DEPARTMENT, unsettling both with the implication of a larger experiment. Minho treats the signs as common labels and urges onward.
Eventually they hit a final dead end and turn back, Minho insisting there is no exit and that the Maze’s builders wouldn’t leave an easy way out. They return to the Glade, map the day’s route, and compare it with previous maps, finding only routine wall shifts.
Utterly exhausted, Thomas drifts toward sleep in the forest corner, discouraged by the day’s futility. In his mind, Teresa’s voice suddenly speaks, claiming she has triggered the Ending, a cryptic warning that foreshadows imminent upheaval.
