CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE: AMARI
Overview
Amari’s team infiltrates Chândomblé and uses Dakarai’s time-sight to trace the path to the scroll room. They are discovered, triggering a chase through the halls. Amari’s Connector power surges against pursuing tîtáns. At the sealed wall to the scrolls, Kâmarū falters, and the group is cornered by Inan.
Summary
Kâmarū tunnels the team into Chândomblé, where the halls amplify their magic. At Amari’s request, Dakarai invokes his time-sight, summoning starry memories that reveal a mamaláwo’s path to the scroll room. The group follows these spectral breadcrumbs deeper into the temple.
Before they reach the destination, clanking armor betrays approaching soldiers. A stumble exposes the team, and alarms sound. Forced to flee, they encounter troops that include Connector tîtáns. Amari steps forward and, drawing on the temple’s amplification and the tîtáns’ presence, unleashes a powerful wave of pain that drops the soldiers, buying time to escape.
Dakarai steers them through corridors to a dead-end wall Amari recognizes as guarding the scrolls. With soldiers closing in, Kâmarū attempts to breach the barrier, but his strength falters after extensive tunneling. Amari prepares another defense to hold the line.
As the pursuers arrive, the first soldier to appear is revealed to be Inan, cutting off their retreat and leaving the team cornered at the sealed entrance to the scroll room.
