Summary
A victory celebration fills the sanctuary with music, palm wine, and dancing. Amari observes the revelry, mindful of the battle ahead. Na’imah sings while Nâo teases Amari about queenship. Kenyon interrupts with a drunken, public declaration of love for Na’imah, easing tension and lifting morale.
Amari drifts to a playful fortune-telling tent where Mama Agba, with Folake’s lights, theatrically “reads” her future, hinting at battles, victories, and love. Tzain arrives; they dance to Na’imah and Khani’s harmonies, finding brief peace amid uncertainty.
Seeking quiet, Amari and Tzain retreat to her balcony, reflecting on the sanctuary’s meaning and Amari’s growth. Guilt over Zélie intrudes, but Tzain reassures Amari that her chosen path serves Orïsha. When intimacy stirs, Tzain pauses, fearing it stems from fear of death; Amari denies this.
Amari openly confesses her longstanding love for Tzain. He asks her to repeat it, and they affirm their feelings. They consummate their relationship, sealing an emotional commitment on the eve of their dangerous mission.
