CHAPTER FIFTY: AMARI

Overview

As Nehanda’s forces descend on the sanctuary, Amari concludes Inan has betrayed them and rejects his pleas. Embracing her Connector power, Amari drains Inan’s ashê and declares him dead to her. She channels the lifeforce of approaching tîtán soldiers and unleashes a devastating wave to meet the attack.

Summary

Zélie aborts her attack on Inan when the Iyika siren blares and rushes toward the battle, leaving Amari reeling. Amari collapses, devastated that bringing Inan for peace instead brought Nehanda’s army. Inan pleads that the ambush wasn’t his plan and claims only Ojore knew, but Amari recalls Zélie’s warnings.

As tîtán soldiers and caravans crest the hill, Amari’s grief hardens into resolve. Concluding that Inan and Nehanda mirror their tyrant father, she opens her palm and begins siphoning Inan’s ashê, feeling his heartbeat slow under her power.

With more Connector ashê rising from the approaching enemy, Amari draws lifeforce from multiple tîtáns at once, charging herself. She tells Inan he is dead to her, casts him aside, and turns to the descending soldiers.

When the first wave attacks, Amari releases the amassed energy in a sweeping blue surge, directing her heartbreak and newfound mastery into a lethal defense against the invading force.
