CHAPTER FIFTY-THREE: ZÉLIE
Overview
The Iyika initially repel monarchy forces, but a cênter general arrives and unleashes a devastating wind blade, razing a corridor of jungle and preparing a second strike. With the sanctuary at risk, Zélie and Mâzeli choose to tether their lifeforces via the moonstone, risking death to counter the attack.
Summary
Zélie and Mâzeli lead the Iyika’s defense on the sanctuary trail, binding and knocking out advancing soldiers. Nâo’s Tiders drown several tîtáns, and Kenyon celebrates as the remaining monarchy troops appear to retreat, abandoning caravans and majacite bombs.
The victory dissolves when a cart led by a cênter general halts a kilometer away. As tîtáns form a ring around the general, she harnesses their power and flings a colossal blade of wind, a scythe-like tornado that rips trees from roots and obliterates a kilometer of jungle. Zélie shields Mâzeli under roots while debris and storm winds tear the battlefield apart.
When the air stills, the first drained tîtáns lie desiccated around the general, and a fresh circle of tîtáns steps forward to fuel a second strike that could shatter the sanctuary walls. Recognizing they cannot approach or survive another blast, Mâzeli urges using the moonstone connection despite its lethal risk.
Zélie agrees, and together they invoke the tethering incantation, binding their lifeforces as violet light crackles between them. As the cênter rebuilds the wind blade, Zélie and Mâzeli complete their incantation, poised to unleash combined power to defend the sanctuary.
