CHAPTER FORTY-SIX: INAN

Overview

Inan presides over a war council as Jokôye intensifies tîtán training and pursues the Iyika, preparing Seers to locate their base. Ojore confronts Inan about sparing Zélie, urging him to treat the maji as enemies. Exhausted and conflicted, Inan succumbs to a mysterious call and awakens in a blue-lily dreamscape, signaling an imminent psychic contact that could alter his plans.

Summary

In the Lagos war room, Inan struggles to focus as an insistent voice calls his name. He forces attention on Jokôye’s briefing: her tîtáns train relentlessly, defenses are strengthened, and Seers in Oron are being prepared to pinpoint the Iyika base where scouts vanish. Inan orders continued training and immediate updates, then dismisses the council.

After Nehanda urges him to rest, Ojore arrives and demands a frank conversation. Inan admits Zélie changed him—seeing her fully through his magic made him want to be a better king. Ojore, scarred by maji, rejects Inan’s empathy, insisting the maji are enemies and warning that battlefield mercy will cost Inan his life.

Alone and conflicted, Inan longs for simpler days before the throne and magic. The elusive voice grows louder, his consciousness slips, and magic cools his skin as he’s drawn away from the war room. The scene resolves into an endless field of blue lilies, signaling he has entered a dreamlike realm and that a psychic contact is beginning.
