After Skye exposes that something happened in Black Wood, Libby waits until Libby and Avery are back in the hallway to demand the truth. Oren explains that there was an incident involving a bullet and a tree, then clarifies that someone fired multiple shots, that the shooter may have meant to scare Avery or may have meant to hit Avery, and that Avery was injured by debris.

Libby is furious that Avery did not tell Libby someone shot at her. Avery insists that Oren and Alisa are handling the danger and says Avery did not want Libby to worry, but Libby focuses on who is actually taking care of Avery. Avery thinks of Max and admits indirectly that Libby already has enough to deal with.

The conversation shifts to Drake. Avery reveals that Avery knows Drake has been texting Libby and challenges Libby for not blocking Drake, changing phones, or reporting him for violating the restraining order. Libby defensively says Libby never asked for the restraining order and does not want a new number because friends—and their father—have that number.

Avery is shocked to learn Ricky Grambs has contacted Libby. Avery immediately suspects Ricky wants access to Avery’s new fortune, comparing Ricky’s motives to Drake’s and to Libby’s mother’s, which hurts Libby. Libby then redirects the conversation to the shooting and understands that Oren’s new security restrictions are because the shots came from within the estate walls and the shooter had access.

Avery, stung by Libby’s secrecy, asks Libby to confirm that Libby has not seen Drake, that Drake has not come to Hawthorne House, and that Libby would not let Drake onto the estate. Libby denies it, then leaves upset but firm, reminding Avery that Libby is still Avery’s legal guardian and must be told if someone tries to shoot Avery again.
