Avery returns to the Great Room for the first time since Tobias Hawthorne’s will was read. She notices that the tall stained-glass window contains two octagons matching the loose glass piece she has been using as a clue, and the riddle’s instruction about “a twist and a flip” suggests the window itself is part of the puzzle.

With Xander steadying a ladder, Avery climbs up and tests the octagons. One panel twists partway when pressed from the side; the other flips when pressed from below. After Avery climbs down, she and Xander step back to interpret the result.

Sunlight through the altered panels casts two purple beams onto the Great Room floor, where the beams cross. Xander checks the exact crossing point but finds nothing. Avery reconsiders the riddle and realizes that its earlier reference to noon may matter because the angle of sunlight changes with the time of day.

Instead of waiting until noon, Avery and Xander decide to “cheat” by testing nearby floorboards. Avery finds one board with more give than the others, and Xander presses until it pops up, exposing a small dial beneath the floor.

When Avery turns the dial, the floor around Avery and Xander begins to sink. The moving platform carries them beneath the Great Room, revealing a hidden stairway that Avery assumes is one of the tunnel entrances Oren never knew about. Avery connects the discovery to the next line of the riddle and tells Xander to take the stairs two at a time.
