Overview
Pip receives new confirmation that girls' drinks were likely being spiked at calamity parties in 2012, strengthening her suspicion that Max Hastings used Rohypnol he bought from Andie Bell. Joanna Riddell's account also links the issue to Daniel da Silva, who may have handled and buried a police report about a spiking incident.
The chapter shifts Max from a suspicious figure to Pip's clear suspect number one. Unable to confront him safely or directly, Pip decides to search his Facebook for leverage or evidence.
Summary
Pip records two new responses to her questions about party drugging in 2012. One person refuses to comment, while Joanna Riddell says her friend believed her drink had been spiked and reported it to Kilton police, but nothing came of the report.
Because Joanna's account supports the earlier clues, Pip concludes that drinks were being spiked at calamity parties, though most partygoers did not know. Since Max Hastings was buying Rohypnol from Andie Bell and helped start those parties, Pip sees a direct connection between Max, Andie, and the druggings.
Pip also considers Nat da Silva as a possible victim, remembering that Nat may have been one of the girls drugged at a party. Pip cannot easily investigate that angle because Nat is hostile and unlikely to answer questions.
Pip researches the police officer Joanna described as young and male and finds that Daniel da Silva was the only officer who fit that description in 2012. The failed report makes Pip wonder whether Daniel simply could not act because the drugs would have left the victim's system, or whether Daniel was involved in covering something up.
These links make Pip see a possible triangle between Max Hastings, Nat da Silva, and Daniel da Silva, but Pip decides her immediate focus must remain on Max. Because Max has lied, may have assaulted girls, and secretly met Andie at the Ivy House Hotel, Pip names Max her top suspect and decides she needs leverage before confronting him.
Pip plans to get around Max's Facebook privacy settings and search his posts and photos for evidence connecting him to Andie, the Ivy House Hotel, or drugging girls. Pip hopes to find something strong enough to force Max to talk or take directly to the police.
