After leaving Romer Close, Pip walks back to her car feeling newly certain that Sal Singh did not kill Andie Bell. Pip calls Cara and learns that Naomi and Max are both at Cara’s house for homework club while Cara’s father is away, so Pip decides to go there immediately despite feeling guilty that Cara will be pulled into the confrontation.

At Cara’s house, Pip enters the kitchen and finds Cara, Naomi, and Max working at the table. Max avoids Pip’s eyes, which confirms Pip’s sense that he is hiding something. Pip’s anger hardens because the hidden photograph has turned the case from imperfect memories into a deliberate lie that destroyed Sal’s alibi.

Pip drops the printed Facebook photo evidence on the table and tells Naomi and Max that this is their chance to explain before Pip goes to the police. Pip identifies the photo as Max’s upload from the night Andie disappeared and points out that Max, Naomi, Millie, and Jake are all in it. Because all four are pictured, someone else must have taken it, and Pip argues that the person was Sal.

Max first tries to dismiss the significance of the photo by claiming Sal could have taken it earlier, but Naomi realizes the time is visible on her phone in the image. Max then accuses Pip of doctoring the photo, but Pip says she took it directly from his Facebook and that the police can recover it even if Max deletes it. Naomi turns on Max for failing to check the photo properly, while Max repeatedly orders Naomi to be quiet.

Naomi panics and says they have to tell Pip, especially because Pip will go to the police. Max loses control, grabs Naomi by the shoulders, then releases her and angrily asks Pip why she did not leave the case alone. Pip lays out the truth: Sal did not leave Max’s house at 10:30, he left at 12:15 as he told police, and Naomi, Max, Millie, and Jake lied to remove his real alibi. Naomi looks at Cara and Pip, then silently nods, confirming Pip’s accusation.
