Production Log – Entry 33
Overview
Pip reconsiders the locker threat and refuses to settle on Nat da Silva as the culprit, recognizing that several suspects could access her school. With time running out, Pip shifts attention back to Andie’s missing burner phone as the strongest piece of possible evidence.
By reasoning that the killer may have returned to the Bell house to remove the phone, Pip narrows her next move: questioning Becca Bell about what happened after Andie disappeared. The investigation pivots from reacting to threats toward pursuing tangible proof.
Summary
Pip records that seeing Nat da Silva at school shortly before finding the threatening locker note is suspicious, especially because Nat has her own history with death threats in lockers. However, Pip cautions that the connection is not proof, since Kilton is small and coincidences can look meaningful.
Pip reviews how many suspects are connected to Kilton Grammar: Max Hastings and Nat attended the school, Daniel da Silva worked there as a caretaker, Jason Bell’s daughters attended, and any suspect could know Pip goes there. Because the school has little security, Pip realizes almost anyone could have entered and placed the note, leaving Pip back at uncertainty.
Pip then refocuses on Andie Bell’s missing burner phone, which Pip and Ravi consider their most important lead. Unlike unclear photos or circumstantial suspicion, the phone would be physical evidence that could force police attention and potentially identify the killer.
Pip reasons through a possible sequence: if Andie was intercepted after leaving home, killed, and disposed of, the killer may have realized the burner phone could expose them and returned to the Bell house to retrieve it. Pip identifies Max Hastings and Howie Bowers as confirmed to know about the phone, and Daniel da Silva would likely have known if he was Andie’s secret older man.
Because Howie knew where the phone was hidden, Pip wonders whether he, Max, or Daniel removed it after Andie’s death. This leads Pip to decide she must ask Becca Bell more questions, even though Becca may refuse to answer.
