Overview
Pip's investigation continues to isolate and frighten Pip as a second warning note appears, this time inside Pip's school locker. The threat proves the unknown culprit can reach Pip beyond Pip's home, but Pip interprets the escalation as evidence that Pip is on the right track.
Meanwhile, Cara worries about Naomi's fragile state, Nat's life continues to collapse under Andie's lingering influence, and Elliot notices Pip's distress. Pip refuses to confide in anyone, deepening Pip's danger and secrecy.
Summary
Cara walks with Pip at school and explains that Naomi has been especially jumpy since her confession. Naomi recently startled so badly when Elliot called her that she threw and smashed her phone, forcing her to use an old pay-as-you-go replacement. Cara admits Naomi has not seemed truly well since their mother died, and Pip promises things will be OK, despite the unresolved awkwardness between Pip and Cara.
Pip is exhausted from sleepless nights, schoolwork, Cambridge essays, and the pressure of her deadline to protect Cara and Naomi. The warning left in Pip's bedroom still haunts Pip, and when Pip sleeps, Pip dreams of a dark figure watching her.
Near Pip's English classroom, Pip unexpectedly meets Nat da Silva, who is at the school trying to get her brother's old caretaker job. Nat is hostile and bitter, explaining that her parents are cutting her off, no one will hire her, and the school will not employ her because of her criminal record. Nat blames the lasting damage on Andie and rejects Pip's apology.
After lunch, Pip opens her locker and finds a folded note pushed inside. It reads: This is your final warning, Pippa. Walk away. Pip hides it in her history textbook and realizes the person threatening her wants to prove they can reach Pip both at home and at school. Although Pip is terrified, Pip reasons that the warning means Pip has unsettled the real killer and may be getting close.
When Pip enters history, Pip accidentally hits Elliot Ward with the classroom door and drops her textbook. The warning note slips out, and Pip scrambles to hide it before Elliot can fully see it. Elliot gently asks whether Pip is being bullied, but Pip insists she is fine. As class begins, Connor notices tension between Pip and Cara, and Pip again denies anything is wrong.
