Overview
Isla encounters Aurora’s soul in a dreamlike room, confronting betrayal and grief. Aurora reveals her own fractured soul and explains that the founders stored power in objects; destroying Cronan’s would weaken him. Isla departs with a concrete lead and a measure of emotional closure, recommitting to choose love over vengeance.
Summary
In a blurred, dreamlike version of Celeste’s room, Isla finds Aurora seated before a hearth that gives no warmth. The women regard each other in tense silence, their shared history palpable as Isla battles impulses to both attack and embrace the friend who betrayed her.
Aurora breaks the stalemate, calling the place cold and admitting she was not always “villainous.” She describes how, after her parents died, her soul split, leaving her teetering between good and evil. She says Violet once steadied her toward goodness, but after feeling betrayed, she chose vengeance—echoing the rift that destroyed their world and their friendship.
Isla weighs this confession against the devastation Aurora caused out of love for King Egan. Determined to look forward, Isla asks how to kill Cronan. Aurora explains the founders transferred parts of their power into objects to amplify their abilities; Lark’s feather is one example. If Cronan’s object is destroyed, he would be weakened and vulnerable.
Hope stirs in Isla as she realizes this gives her a tangible strategy. She thanks Aurora and turns to leave. Aurora softly insists not everything between them was pretend. Isla, moved by memories of their former bond, acknowledges she knows, then departs, resolved to act on this new lead.
