Shaken by his loss of control with Isla, Grim fights desire and reasserts discipline. Summary
Grim, alone in his chambers, is overwhelmed by anger and regret after losing control with Isla. He tries to dismiss her importance, reminding himself she is a prisoner and a threat, yet memories of their encounter keep intruding and unsettle his long-cultivated detachment.
Unable to endure his thoughts, Grim storms through the fortress and enters the galaxy room, where Cronan is surveying his conquests. Grim demands to see the future. Cronan obliges, conjuring a vision of Isla gazing up at Grim, confessing love, and then stabbing him through the heart.
Grim orders the vision again and again, and Cronan eventually leaves it running as he departs. Grim studies every detail—the cadence of Isla’s voice, her expression, the blade’s design, and the sound of it piercing him—until the shock subsides.
By exhausting himself on the prophecy, Grim regains his composure. The repeated vision reinforces his fear and his decision to reject Isla, choosing self-preservation and control over the pull he feels toward her.
