Chapter 21 — Isla

Isla awakens immobilized in a glass-domed chamber beneath a forced galaxy shaped like a crown. She recognizes Cronan’s void power smothering the realm and realizes her storm-amplified abilities are useless here. Cronan pins her, admires the Infinite diamond, and explains he prefers conquering living worlds—and that Isla is more useful alive as the Worldkey.

Instead of prying Infinite directly, Cronan reveals his plan to control Isla herself. Shadows from his twisted crown lance into her mind, ransacking memories and will. Isla, unable to move or speak, forges a mental fortress built on love for those she left behind, pushing him out despite the agony.

Enraged, Cronan levitates Isla, threatens to force entry again, and fixates on the idea that every lock has a key. Isla realizes her “key” is her bonds to the men she loves and fears Cronan could sense and portal them to him. She sees her connections to Grim and Oro like luminous bridges stretching across worlds.

Determined not to let Cronan use them as leverage, Isla chooses a devastating protection. Drawing on her will and her father’s daring example, she reaches for those bonds and severs them, sacrificing her deepest ties to prevent Cronan from turning her love into a weapon against them.
