Chapter 16 — Oro

Drawn through the fogged soul realm, Oro finds his brother Egan, half-corporeal yet radiant after five centuries. Overwhelmed but composed, Oro recounts recent events—the curses’ fallout and Isla—seeking guidance as he weighs love against duty.

Egan stresses their family’s responsibility to their people and wonders if nexus—binding the Sunling ruler’s life to the realm—can be undone. He offers only one principle: sometimes something must be lost to gain everything. Violet appears beside Egan, and her presence reframes the past choice that sparked the curses.

When Violet anxiously asks about Aurora, unaware of Aurora’s betrayal, Oro lies that Aurora survived and lived long, choosing mercy over truth to preserve Egan and Violet’s brief peace. The fog begins to stir, and Egan explains they linger here by choice, meeting only in moments before both fade.

Grim arrives as the realm shifts. Azul reappears, solemn yet calmed after his own reunion, and silently offers his hand. Oro and Grim take it, and the trio return from the fog to Lightlark, carrying renewed resolve and hard-won clarity about sacrifice and love.
