Chapter 26 — Oro

Overview

Oro becomes addicted to the Threads of Time, losing days to visions while searching for answers. Enya, Zed, and Calder intervene, tearing the Threads from his veins and suffering injuries when Oro lashes out. Shaken, Oro apologizes and agrees to rest, but the Threads’ lure remains, foreshadowing danger.

Summary

Oro immerses himself in the Threads of Time, learning from centuries of history and seeking a way to create a portal. The past’s patterns enthrall him, and hunger and exhaustion cannot pull him away. He believes this knowledge is the key to saving everyone and reaching Isla.

After days without sleep, Oro experiences a searing pain as Enya, Zed, and Calder rip him back to the present. The Threads have woven into his veins, leaving him bleeding and disoriented. Calder heals the wound while Enya and Zed confront him about the danger his obsession poses.

Desperate to justify himself, Oro tries to force access to the Threads and erupts with uncontrolled power. He blasts Calder into a wall and scorches Zed before realizing he’s attacking his oldest friends. Horror and remorse break through the haze.

Enya throws the Threads away, calling them evil. Oro acknowledges how they changed him, apologizes, and allows his friends to lead him to rest. Yet even as he leaves, the Threads still call to him, underscoring his unresolved dependence and the risk it poses to their cause.
