Summary
Oro returns to his throne room after meeting with allies and facing relentless beast attacks. Isla appears to him, offering no explanation for the connection. When Oro tensely asks about Grim, Isla says Grim is unchanged, then warns that Cronan intends to destroy their world in three weeks.
The looming deadline collides with Oro’s eroding control. Using emotion to wield fire, he flares into rage and pain, confessing he wishes he had never met Isla because he still loves her and fears what that love could make him do. Flames engulf the room as Oro’s powers surge beyond restraint.
Instead of retreating, Isla steps toward Oro’s fire and takes his blazing hand, affirming his nobility and strength and promising to remind him of who he is, as he once did for her. Grounded by her words and presence, Oro’s flames subside and his control returns.
When Isla asks how she can help, Oro admits their defenses cannot last and asks about her portaling device to warn the newlands and seek aid. Isla recalls that Lark had it and, despite being imprisoned, resolves to try to find it. The contact ends with a fragile plan: Isla will search for the device while Oro holds the line.
