Chapter 45 — Grim
Overview
From Grim’s perspective, Cronan exploits Grim’s erased memories to frame Isla as a threat and prompts Grim to attack her. Isla repels him and escapes with a storm forming overhead. Cronan orders her death, and Grim chooses to pursue, setting up a direct conflict fueled by manipulation and lost trust.
Summary
Grim confronts an unfamiliar woman on the floor, stunned by her saturated red aura and overwhelmed by her emotions—grief, despair, and, most startlingly, love for him. He senses she somehow wields multiple realm powers, including Wildling, Nightshade, Starling, Sunling, Skyling, and Moonling, and wears the diamond Infinite.
Cronan, Grim’s ancestor, claims the woman threatens their realm and loves the Sunling king. Grim, struggling with fragmented memories of why he is in the founders’ world, denies knowing her despite her devastated insistence that he does. Cronan urges Grim to kill her, warning she will destroy everything their line has built.
Following his instinct to eliminate threats to his realm, Grim unleashes shadow blades at the woman. At the last instant, she crosses her arms and releases a powerful blast that hurls Grim into a wall. She looks at him in heartbreak before breaking through the ceiling and soaring into the glittering sky.
Thunder rolls as a storm forms above. Cronan bellows for Grim to hunt her down and return with her corpse. Though Grim refuses to take direct orders, he accepts the necessity: protecting his realm. He resolves to pursue her, engulfed in shadows as he launches into the sky.
