At work, Cooper feels trapped as the afternoon drags toward five o’clock. Because money is missing, Mrs. McCauley stays later than usual and watches Cooper suspiciously, even following Cooper into the break room while Cooper heats lunch. Cooper retreats to the office, unable to sneak out early.

Around three-thirty, Lexi unexpectedly calls Cooper. Her shaky voice alarms Cooper because Lexi rarely calls, especially not instead of contacting Debbie. Lexi asks Cooper to come home immediately because Lexi believes something is wrong with Debbie.

Lexi explains that several events have made Lexi and Izzy suspect Debbie has become a vigilante. Izzy was kicked off the soccer team, and Coach Pike was arrested the next day. Lexi also told Debbie about problems with Zane, and the next morning Zane drove into the school and ended up hospitalized with a broken neck. Cooper is disturbed that Debbie never told Cooper about Zane’s crash.

Lexi then reveals that when Lexi went to use Debbie’s desktop computer, Lexi found a strange document open on the screen. Lexi refuses to explain fully over the phone and tells Cooper to come home and look at it.

Cooper asks where Debbie is, and Lexi says Debbie left on an errand an hour and a half earlier. Cooper checks the Findly app and discovers Debbie’s location has not updated for two hours, meaning Debbie likely turned off location sharing. Frightened by Debbie’s secrecy, Cooper tells Lexi that everything will be fine, though Cooper knows the reassurance may be a lie.
