Overview
Kvothe bonds with Abenthy, learning the difference between true arcanists and pretenders, and glimpsing the University’s scope. Abenthy proves his status with a guilder and discusses knacks. Prompted by Kvothe’s questions about the Arcanum, Abenthy reveals the University’s immense library and explains the guilder, handing Kvothe his gilthe. The token numbs Kvothe’s arm, proving its authenticity and the difference between arcanists and those with mere tricks or skills.
